Paper of Transference

Paper of Transference

This magic item is extremely rare, and is sought after by mages from all over the realms. It resembles an ordinary piece of parchment, but with a slight yellowish tinge. Some even have burnt edges, making them look as though they had been in a fire and were just a discarded piece of parchment.

It will glow of alteration magic if detected. Anyone capable of observing this will think the parchment is a page from a magical scroll or from a wizard's spellbook. Little do they know the true treasure they have found, especially if happened upon by a wizard.

The parchment acts like a copy machine. When the paper is put within 1 foot of a magic scroll or spellbook, it will glow slightly for a few seconds. During that time, all of the spells from the scroll or spellbook will have been transferred to the parchment, wiping the book or scroll clear of any and all spells. The spells are converted into extremely small writing upon the parchment, in the exact order and levels they were originally found within the scroll or book. Sometime later, the owner of the parchment can lay it down upon their own spellbook or scroll, and the reverse will take place. Any spells it had taken previously will be transferred from the parchment to the recipient's spellbook and will be ready to use or memorize by the new recipient as usual. Of course, only those spells that the character can cast at their level can be used, and all other rules of spellcasting still apply. This paper can range in size from as small as 4" x 4" to as large as 8" x 10". Of course, the smaller it is, the better for concealment.
