Remove Petrification

Remove Petrification (Abjuration)

Priest Spell - Level 4

Sphere: Healing, Protection
Range: 1 yard/level
Components: V,S,M
Duration: Permanent
Casting time: 6 segments
Area of Effect: one creature
Saving Throw: None

This spell allows the priest to restore life to any creature who was the victim of petrification. The survival of such a creature is, however, dependent upon the success of a system shock roll; if the roll fails, the victim is restored to a fleshy state, but remains dead. Note that only formerly living creatures can be affected by this spell. Inanimate stone, animated rocks, undead, golems, or any other such creations remain unaffected.

Mages often view this spell as a weaker version of the 6th level wizard spell Stone to Flesh. They point out that the latter is capable of transforming any sort of stone or rock into flesh and is not restricted to affecting only creatures which were once living. While this is basically true, priests are quick to counter that their spell is more practical and helpful because it is much more readily available at their 7th level as opposed to the wizards 11th. This makes the spell a more useful one for adventurers and a better suited spell to take along on quests; indeed, priests designed this spell for just these purposes.

The material components are the priest's holy symbol and a bit of flesh, scales, feather or fur from any creature capable of innate petrification.
