Rod of Storms
Rod of Storms
D&D Magic Item
History: To the clergy of Storm Gods, a Rod of Thunder and Lightning is considered a favored weapon, and they will go to great lengths to obtain one. However, due to the spells involved in its creation, they are very difficult for divine spellcasters to craft. In response, the similar Rod of Storms is gaining popularity. In terms of sheer numbers, there are many more Rods of Thunder and Lightning, but almost all Rods of Storm remain in the hands of Storm Clerics.
Description: Constructed of iron with platinum grooves and flanges, this rod has the properties of a +2 shocking light mace.
Powers:
- Thunderstrike: Once per day as a standard action, a column of lightning is called from the sky. This effect is similar to a flamestrike (Area: 10 ft. radius, 40 ft. high) except half the damage is electrical and half the damage is unholy. Thunderstrike deals 13d6 damage, Reflex DC 16 for half damage, with a range of 200 feet. This ability may be cast indoors.
- Call Lightning: At will, lightning may be called from a stormy area, as per call lightning. Initiating this power is a standard action, and the rod must be held for 10 rounds as the spell takes effect (concentration is not necessary). On the 10th round, a column of lightning (10d10 electrical damage, Reflex DC 14 for half damage) strikes the targeted area (10 ft radius, range 800 feet).
- Create Storm: Once per day, weather in a 3 mile radius may be changed to thunderstorm weather for approximately 24 hours. This ability may only be used outdoors and takes 10 minutes as the weather gradually becomes more violent.
Caster Level: 13th
Prerequisites: Craft Rod, Craft Magic Arms and Armor, flamestrike, call lightning, control weather
Market Price: 25,000 gp
