The Shadow Gem is a smooth sphere of the blackest onyx, about the size of clenched fist. The gem will pulsate with a red glow when exposed to the light of day. Its creator is only known as the Shadowmaster, a extremely powerful psionicist who tried to take over the world. Only the Shadow Gem and the Shadowblade survived the final confrontation that the Shadowmaster had with the Order of the Way, a group of Lawful Good and Lawful Neutral psionicists.
The Shadow Gem is smooth-talking with a pleasing manner. It urges its possessor to do whatever it takes to find the Shadowblade and to amass power. It likes to master any who possess it and uses them to further its own wants and desires. The Shadow Gem delights in being surrounded by inferior valuable metals and gems and willing it owner to destroy all gems and metals that it feels are of equal or superior value to itself. The gem's goal is to be worshiped by all who view it and to dominate all that possess it.
The Shadow Gem has appear from time to time in various treasure troves of powerful creatures whom it has dominated. It is currently believed to be in the possession of the Great Black Wyrm Shadasta. Shadasta has held it for the last 10 years from all who try to claim it for their own.
