A thin, pale young woman dressed in clerical robes sat in a corner of the Wanderer's Rest, sipping a glass of wine and studying a large book intently. Her companion, a bard dressed in black silk, pounded the table with his fist as he leaned over and said something to her that Tomkin Ballyforth couldn't hear. Thomkin stood staring at these visitors to his inn with curiousity for several minutes, then decided to walk over to their table and ask if there was anything more he could get for them, hoping to catch part of the animated conversation while he was at it.
"....absolute insanity. Lady Wilomina, I must insist that you forget this foolish idea. The Wildlands are no place for a delicate flower such as yourself. Surely there is someone else in your order who would be better suited.....," Thomkin heard the bard say.
"I appreciate your concern, Oswald," Wilomina answered calmly without looking up from her book, "but I assure you that I am well protected by my god. May I remind you that it is in places such as these that my teaching skills are most needed. Besides, you forget that I spent the first part of my life in a land not much different than the Wildlands."
"But I promised Father I would protect...," Oswald began.
"Enough. I am going to the Wildlands, with or without you, whether my uncle likes it or not. I have been called," she replied with a hint of irritation in her voice.
After trying for several moments to gain their attention with no success, Thomkin sighed and headed back to the bar. "Perhaps, I'd better wait until they're through with their 'discussion,' " he thinks to himself as he poured himself a mug of ale.

Background:
Wilomina is the daughter of a tavern owner. He sent her to live with his brother-in-law, a nobleman, at a young age because he recognized that she had a good mind and wanted her to have the opportunity to develop it. He felt that his brother-in-law was in a better position to help Wilomina fulfill her potential.
Despite her frailty, she is dedicated to bringing the grt of learning and knowledge to as many people as possible of all races, and is determined to go and do whatever is needed to accomplish this goal.
Her traveling companion is Oswald, a bard. He is also her cousin and has been ordered by his father, Wilomina's uncle, to watch over the frail priestess as she endeavors to carry out the will of her deity. Even though he admires Wilomina for her courage and determination, he believes that she risks her health needlessly. However, he is committed to going where she goes, helping her any way he can and making life as easy for her as possible. That doesn't mean he won't try to talk her out of ideas he considers beyond her abilities. He is also trying to impress his father, who considers Oswald's chosen profession frivolous.
In addition, Oswald imagines himself to be quite wise and will have a famous quote or "words of wisdom" for any situation.
