Knights of the Dinner Table Comic Book

Knights of the Dinner Table:
Tales from the Vault
by Jolly R. Blackburn
Kenser and Company $9.95

This product is a compilation of all the “Knights of the Dinner Table” comic strips that appeared in Shadis Magazine, Dragon Magazine and a few other publications from 1990 to 1997. And along with the strips, you also get the story behind the creation of KODT by the author himself.

I’m not a subscriber to either of these magazines and had never seen most of these strips. But I had seen a few of them, and was impressed by how right on the money they are in humorously portraying a typical gaming group. And now that I’ve read them all, I must say that opinion hasn’t changed. I am a KODT fan. This is a great product and well worth the money, especially if you haven’t seen every strip yet. It was a great idea to put them all together in one product.

The product may be purchased via mail order through Kenser and Company. If you were at Gen Con, they were the ones who were selling the Monty Python CCG. My only complaint about this product is that this publishing company is so small that this book and any related products, like the KODT comic book, are hard to get. Nevertheless, they can be reached at Kenserco, 1935 S. Plum Grove Road, Suite 194, Palatine, IL 60067.

By the way, I didn’t like the comic book as much as the strip, mostly because Mr. Blackburn changed the character of Sara into a bully with a bad temper, and made Dave into a chauvinist so that she would have someone to bully. In my opinion, this ruined their realism. I have never been in a group where a female player threatened one of the other players with bodily harm, no matter what that person had said. Oh, I’m sure it happens, but not very often. That not withstanding, the book is a lot like the strip, except that the stories are longer. And as I said, Kenserco is so small that you would have to subscribe to the comic to get it. My local comic shop had never heard of it. Personally, I’d stick with the strip in the Dragon.
